Twist it

Its Saturday. I'll be day drinking. And at some point I'll want to twist around my living room. Here are my songs of choice to twist to:

The Gore Gore Girls : I'm Gonna Get You Yet

Contours - Do You Love Me

The Angels - My Boyfriend's Back (to slow the twisting down some)

And just because I love, love this picture:

Kid Cover

Nothing like a brief burst of music to help you limp towards the end of your Friday. For your enjoyment, here is a cover of Kid Cudi's "Pursuit of Happiness" performed by Lissie. I know you'll love it.

Thanks Julie for showing this to me.

Robyn Returns

When I was in elementary school I had a repertoire, if you will, of female country & pop songs I liked to sing in the shower, or in my backyard when no one else was around ( I liked to sing loud but was rather shy ). These songs included:

1) "Always Be My Baby" - Mariah Carey
2) "(Let's Give 'Em) Something To Talk About" - Bonnie Raitt
3) Anything off the album "Read My Mind" by Reba McEntire
and, one of my personal favorites

4) "Show Me Love" - Robyn
(You can click 'Play' on this song now)

I loved this song. I'm listening to it right now. I think I still do. (That break at 2:22?! Nails it.)
Except I always thought she was saying, "Always been told I got too much to write," only JUST NOW realized she was saying "too much pride".

But I never heard about Robyn again after this song, which always sorta bummed me out.

I started hearing about some up-and-coming popular person also named Robyn back in January and thought, nah... couldn't be.

But just yesterday, after getting halfway through Sasha Frere-Jones' New Yorker profile on the singer, I decided I would check out this new "Robyn", a potential name-stealer, and see if she was any good.

So I check out this video, fine, whatever, it's fine. But I read in the YouTube comments:

Jax1108 : Why the hell does EVERYONE compare Lady Gaga to EVERy artist?! Its so ignorant. People try too hard no a days to be a non-conformist! Robyn was around WAY before Lady Gaga. And guess what, its possible to like both!

WHAAAT?!? So this Robyn is one and the same. Crazy.

(By the way, today I learned that if I had simply finished SFJ's article I would've discovered this for myself. It was only a few more paragraphs down).
Crazy to me at least, I guess everyone else was shocked by her reemergence months and months ago.
I'm always slow to catch up on the pop circuit.

These days we've all been posting under our own names - so I figured for all those people out there who read us regularly, I'll introduce you to the crew. I suggest you listen to this song while browsing...

Happy Monday!

Why Hast Thou Forsaken Us?

One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the La Roux. Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.

In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of footprints, other times there was one only.

This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints, so I said to the La Roux,

“You promised me La Roux,
that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life there has only been one set of footprints in the sand.
Why, when I needed you most, have you not been there for me?"

La Roux replied, “MY THROAT IS SICK. SORRY MATE."

FUCKING BULLSHIT

Work it, girl.

Hello EBs. It's Monday. This is lame. However, let's pump it up. Come on now, work it out with me, let's get that blood flowing.

Melbourne Delight

Miami Horror is anything but horrible, or from Miami for that matter. The electronic duo is from Melbourne, Australia. (I assume Rach knows them personally.) Also, Thesaurus.com told me that the opposite of horror is delight. So let's go with that. Keep your Sundays cool with Melbourne Delight (nee Miami Horror).

Meet Moxie Black

Pigeons & Planes introduced Moxie Black as "hip-hop with pop sensibility, new wave style, R&B melodies, and indie rock appeal." We have to say that we agree with all of the above. Enjoy them below:

After Dark - The Count & Sinden featuring Mystery Jets

I notice my posts keep getting shorter and shorter, but this is for you, boo. (If that wasn't obvious, this is for you, Rachelle Rogers.)

Tell me if this starts your dancing fever.

Let's Look Like Fools

This song is "old" (old meaning 1 year), but it's still so good. It came on my ipod this morning on the metro and I just lost all human dignity. I started rocking my head side to side and couldn't stop my self from lipsynching like an idiot. People may or may not have been judging. I looked like a fool. I want you to look like a fool too. So, here it is, get down with me.

I do, however, have an awesome song to post.

Simmerdown Sunday: Cover Art

Lets break down some classics for this Simmerdown Sunday.

Whitley performing Abba's Dancing Queen on Triple J's Like a Version

CocoRosie (Dan, I give you credit for this awesome find) does a beautiful cover of The Beach Boys' Surfer Girl.

Barbara covering Kid Cudi's Pursuit of Happiness....

And finally, Elizabeth and the Catapult do Leonard Cohen's Everybody Knows. (The drummer in this video looks like he wants to yawn).

80's awesome to the rescue

The day is just about halfway through for the citizens of Electrobitch land. Which means a couple of things:

1. You are getting bored at work.
2. You need to jam.
3. You need to watch something really colorful. And awesome.

Your noble electrobitch writers are here to help. For your enjoyment, here is a sweet little video from London Duo "Future Cop!".

Since we didn't really do a Retro Wednesday post yesterday, the 80's-ness of this video will have to do.

This video and song makes me think of the Beastie Boys hanging out with the crew of The Mighty Boosh. And let me tell you, that is a party I want to be at.

I think that is the lyrics here.
Let me know if I am terribly wrong.

Either way - this is kind of a weird one.

Brice et sa pute - Funky Politician

(Um the band name translates to Bruce and his whore. Yes, I had to google translate. No, I do not know the word for whore in French).

Impressive

Beatbox - Baby I'm Yours.

Its a fun song that I kinda want to rollerskate too. Oh maybe go for like a summer drive with it playing.

Anyways, the thing that is impressive is the damn video. It is made with something like over 2000 separate water color paintings. That blows my mind.

Breakbot - Baby I'm Yours (feat. Irfane) - HD from Ed Banger Records on Vimeo.

Like seriously if I was to ever make a music video of my own I just imagine myself being awkward and lazy. No, I would just ask Richard Simmons to do a workout to my music and use that as my video. I just love his genius (oh, ps. Happy Birthday Boo).
Although, I'm too awkward and lazy to ever write a song so I highly doubt I would ever be making a music video. Clearly my ideal music video is here.

I had no idea

I thought I was being all (idiot) savant with the epiphany that both Chromeo and Kele have songs called Tenderoni. I said to myself "what the fuck is that?" Mostly I thought it might be a veiled reference to Chef-Boy-R-Dee. But, I was wrong.

According to Wikipedia (and we all know that is the end all of be all) Tenderoni is slang to describe one's younger male or female love interest or someone too young to talk to or become involved with. It denotes your younger sweetheart, your younger better half, your younger boyfriend/girlfriend, and more recently used as an alternate word for jailbait.

Whatever. I don't care. Just check out both songs.

Also check out Chromeo - Bonified Lovin' because I am obsessed. [Warning: video is terribly homemade]

Tallest Trees is a better name than Shortest Bush

The tallest trees in the world are, of course, Red Woods. Tallest Trees is the name of one of the coolest bands in the world. Considering RCRD LBL described them as "like the offspring of Animal Collective, YACHT and Yeasayer" I'd say, yeah, they just entered into the weekly rotation of every electrobitch in the nation. Enjoy them below and decide for yourself.

Add other bands you think could be combined to make their sound. Actually, that's kind of fun in a general sense. Like La Roux + James Brown = Janelle Monae. Do it.

Simmerdown Sundays, Ctd

Sometimes it's nice to let the robots take over. Peep this gorgeous cover by Randy George. Motherfucking theremin, goddamn.

Simmerdown Sundays

I'm loving 40s/50's style music this summer (See here and here) so I'm sticking with that theme today.

Hey, are you hungover?

Watch this.

Hahahahahahaha sorry.

I was just kidding.

7/8/10

Oh hello

Ok so I'm not exactly new to posting here at EB. I am, however, super lazy and have just been posting under the electrobitches name. So now, I've stepped it up a notch and actually attributed my own name to my weird and awkward posts that sometimes include somewhat decent music.

As a basic intro, this is me and my crew on a Tuesday night:

And this is my favourite video of all time. Enjoy.

Happyland -Don't You Know Who I Am?

Seriously this used to be (ok, it still is) my theme song. WIN.

Feelin' Like the Biggest Midget in the Game

There is just something about a fly-ass pair of Nike high-top blazers on yo feet, cornrows in yo hair, and a BADASS attitude on yo lips.

I only have two of the three going right now... but these Burberry edition Blazers are making my day so Sovereign. So, in honor of the little midget herself here is a rad remix. Enjoy my little SOVVVVVs.

If your wig is blonde

Retro Wednesday presents: your new (old?) summer anthem

Maybe you jammed to this track back in the day. It was on heavy MTV ro-to before MTV became (as Prince alleges) "outdated".

I sort of forgot about it until a couple weeks ago, and now? I'm jammin' like a pop star ALL DAY! Making up funny phrases that rhyme with the catch lines (i.e.- "if your name is Sean/ if your mane is long/ if you'll wear my thong/" instead of "if your game is strong"). It's a great game. Maybe you want to try?

Also, DO YOU MISS THE 90s OR DO YOU MISS THE 90s.
Also, sorry if you're sick of me. I know it's my third day of posting in a row. Are you sick of me? Sometimes I have a lot to say.

ZIP IT, NUMBERHEAD

Prince & crew

Prince, Nostradamus of our times, has predicted that the internet is going to drop dead of a heartattack. Or something like that. He thinks it is dead already.

Internet ?

Prince is releasing an album of new music exclusively through the London Daily Mirror (read: British tabloid) on Saturday and subsequently bestowed upon this esteemed publication his first interview to a British "newspaper" in 10 years.

"The internet is like MTV. At one time MTV was hip and suddenly it became outdated. Anyway, all these computers and digital gadgets are no good. They just fill your head with numbers and that can't be good for you."

Now I know what you're thinking.
"Oh, that guy Prince. He's so lame now he doesn't know what he's talking about and he's a Jehovah's Witness and maybe hates the gays (etc etc blah blah blah)--"

ZIP IT, NUMBERHEAD. Why would Prince care about your criticisms? You, with your Twitter and your Kindle and your scientific calculator and other gadgets that fill your head with numbers. Just be quiet.

"0000011100030033030030051010101010101101001010101010100000!!!!!!!"
That's the only language YOU understand!!!

Prince also believes that he is not bald because he has been playing the electric guitar his whole life and there is electricity racing through his body. If you don't believe me you can read the article yourself, baldie. Up yours.

Also, I'd like to give a big, "hey what's up" to one of the people in this picture, who originally alerted me to this Prince news.

"hey what's up"

Bonjour Weekend

Getchur freek on.
You classy mothers.

In that movie being made about what happens in your life this weekend, this will be the background music playing while shots of you in a towel, examining your pores/ trimming your pubes/ trying on different outfits and making whacky faces, whizz across the screen. The viewer will understand that you are getting ready for the proverbial "big night out".

Here's to you getting laid. I'm tilting my champagne glass towards the computer screen. And winking.

We Be Crushin': Marina & The Diamonds

Hello, boys & girls. EB is starting a new column called We Be Crushin' (We(E B)e Crushin' -- too much? OK.). In this intrepid column we'll talk about current musical soulmates. I will start.

[Disclaimer: I am a big lesbo.]

Marina & The Diamonds

Marina & The Diamonds is the stage name of one Marina Lambrini Diamandis. We, the fans, are the diamonds. Just like testing the quality of a diamond: Marina, bite me hard.

And

Sing to us.

Smolder at us.

Sex us.

Now.

We like your music too, boo.

Call me.

And then my day got better.

One of our very first posts was about the amazing song Spoiled Boy by 80kidz (ft. Lovefoxxx). For a full 2 weeks it was stuck in my head on repeat, and it's still one of my favorite songs of 2010. So you can imagine my alegria (Portuguese for happiness) when I ran across it again on CSS' blog. The song is new and improved in video form.

"Spoiled Boy" 80kidz feat. Lovefoxxx from Who-Fu on Vimeo.

I guess it's going to be another 2 weeks with it stuck in my head. And I'm OK with that.

Dios mio, we're so cultured.

Let's look at a series of pictures. They tell us a story.

Oui oui?

OH HAI!

Introducing: Moustache!

A self-described drumelectrofunkhippophouseandbassexperimentalbeats duo from Chile, they've been providing hot remixes of fellow Spanish-speakers since 2008. Their music is almost as fun as their pictures.

Picnic Kibun - Drop Your Panties (Moustache! Remix) by moustache!

Protistas - Mi Pieza (Moustache! Remix) by moustache!

Moustache! Mixtape by moustache!

Also check 'em out on MySpace (which provides a really beast remix of Step by Step by New Kids on the Block...never thought that name would appear on EB, but here we are).
