Rise and Shine

You guys, I woke up this morning with this song stuck in my head. First thought, is this the Cure or New Order? Second thought, that would be great for Retro Wednesday.

Last thought, I had no idea it was named "Bizarre Love Triangle." Come on people, it should be named "Every Time I See You Falling."

We're Basically a CSS blog

OK, so you know we like CSS. A Lot. But who cares! They are great. Lovefoxxx was recently featured on a song from the Drive soundtrack called "night call." Listen to it...NOW!

This song is so classically contemporary- its got that synth styling of the 80s, but all the darkness and foreboding of a time where the world feels like it is falling apart (basically since 2008 to now).

I love it.

I'm doing better than anybody else

Dear reader, you are in for a treat today. Considering that it is Friday, I suppose that is entirely appropriate. Today's video is from a band called TEEN from Brooklyn New York. They've managed to create the perfect montage for their haunting track "better" by using clips from some 80's bicycle dancing flick staring Kevin Bacon. Take a look, become obsessed, and then watch again.

Teen BETTER from FAR EYE on Vimeo.

I think this video/song is the perfect way to encapsulate today's 20 something culture. It takes something from the past, and by super imposing a compensatory lens (in this case, music), somehow makes it more suitable now than in the time it was originally created. A bunch of guys dancing on bicycles could only be cool in 1986 and 2011, and no time in between.

Also, who knew Kevin Bacon was so... hot.?

One Day Late

I am one day late for a Retro Wednesday post. But that doesn't mean the 80s are out of my head. In fact, they are stuck. Forever. Particularly this song:

Not So Retro Wednesday

We've said it before, and we'll say it again, but Laurel Halo makes some hot jams to roller skate underwater to.

This time, the rollerskating would be taking place firmly in the 80s. Not that this is a bad thing. Rollerskating's hay days were arguably in the 70s and 80s.

Just look at those skillz. And I know you remember going to the roller rink back in the day. 8th grade field trips what what. Enjoy Laurel's dreamy vocals on this track and reminisce.
