Two of our favey faves have come together to make up the most super collaboration in this world, not in some awesome parallel universe as we'd always imagined.
CHROMEO + LA ROUX = HOT MESS.
Well, at least that's the name of the song. What Chromeo plus La Roux really equals is awesome.
Listen and get your mind bloooown. (I mean the song is OK, but the idea behind these two is mind blooowing.)
One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the La Roux. Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of footprints, other times there was one only.
This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints, so I said to the La Roux,
“You promised me La Roux, that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life there has only been one set of footprints in the sand. Why, when I needed you most, have you not been there for me?"
I feel like she looks really bored. She does a good job, its really mellow and Kelis made it so I could actually understand the lyrics.
And I'm posting the original because I love it. It was La Roux's first single. Also - how crazy is their popularity these days? Bulletproof took a year to take off but now its everywhere.
Since I'm posting about La Roux. I want to mention their Coachella stint (yes, I'm writing this like a month too late). Outside the tent where you could line up and get autographs, La Roux had three people painted in gold promoting their 8pm show. It was weird. Not many other acts had promotion, just kinda expected people to show up. And people did show up for the La Roux show. The tent was packed. With screaming young people. Like the young people from LA that would just drive down for the day and do a whole bunch of drugs. They were the audience.
Anyways, Elly did a great job. I was burdened with sun stroke, my friend Jackie was throwing up, and we still enjoyed their performance. To be honest, her vocals were shaky at the beginning, but she had hit her stride by the third song. I'm Not Your Toy was my favourite. They also did a cover of the Rolling Stone's Under My Thumb. It was good. I tried to find a video, and there is one on the Tube of the Coachella performance but its painful to watch. Here is Elly rocking it at the Wonder Ballroom.
Sidenote > This is how I feel today:
And it's a beautiful Friday! Why do I always drink myself into oblivion on a Thursday night?
Just because I like the break down of this song, and I haven't posted anything on La Roux for a while, this is today's post. The song takes a while to pick up, but it's great version of La Roux's first single In For the Kill. Really I should be listening to this on some great speakers and not on my crappy 2001 Dell at work.
And while you are wondering if those of us that contribute to Electrobitches are just going to pine over and play Elly Jackson and Beth Ditto, fear not. We'll be mixing it up. They are just this week's awesome inspiration.
Today, I've had an 80's Party Mix on repeat. Probably some of the worst songs of all time. Lose.
So yes, I like awesomely terrible music some (OK, a lot) of the time. And I'll likely be a bitch about it.
But when we here at Electrobitches pick up some good music, we'll let you know. Today's posted remix pretty much sums up two of my favorite albums of 2009.
And those Electrobitches?
We are those girls who are wearing some heinous 80's jacket on New Years Eve instead of a fancy dress. We'll tell the DJ to fuck off when he doesn't know who Cut Copy is. We'll get kicked out of a bar on a Thursday night because we've side-swiped the DJ on his MacBook trying to play Journey for a second time that night.
Basically Electrobitches is an attitude. We like music. We like electronics. And we'll tell you about it. Probably aggressively.
