Discokaine's Fireworks are Bigger than Katy Perry's

Hiya, Discokaine. Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

My mother says that my haircut looks like shit and i should not drink coca cola after 5pm because than i cant sleep.....i'm 25years old though!!

Oh yeah? What else?

my "MS Word"programm just tells me with those underlined red words that my english sucks big time and furthermore my german in interviews is even worse.

OK, well thank god your mixes are better than your interviews.*

Discokaine - Fireworks (feat. Hercules & Love Affair)

*This interview is excerpted from Discokaine's myspace. We in no way talked to him and in no way own his eloquent, eloquent words.

Mas y Mas

More and more of super DJ Barretso. Here he is again with some originals instead of mixes this time. I have to say, it really reminds me of his Futurecop! remix. I guess that's a good thing.

Barretso - We Won't Stop by BARRETSO

Barretso - Bright City Lights by BARRETSO

I also put in a request for "more disembodied voice" instead of "more cowbell." kthx.

Undefeated in the Competition of Band Names

The '96 Bulls calls to mind the glory seasons of the trifecta of Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and Dennis Rodman. It also calls to mind the best band name ever -- used by two lads from Melbourne who create sick electronic remixes. Here are a few of them to enjoy:

The Wombats - Tokyo (Vampires & Wolves) ('96 Bulls Remix) by '96 Bulls

The Knocks - Dancing With The DJ ('96 Bulls Remix) by '96 Bulls

Miami Horror - I Look To You ('96 Bulls Remix) by '96 Bulls

The Big Boi Keys

Merry Christmas Eve, boys and girls. Do I ever have an early present for you. An anonymous DJ called Wick-It is responsible for a mashup mixtape of Big Boi's LP Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son Of Chico Dusty and the Black Keys' Brothers. It's name: The Brothers of Chico Dusty. And we have it here for you.

Exploring the Intertubes: Blog Round Up Edition

Let's just admit it now, the intertubes are just a gigantic echo chamber. We're OK with this. In this spirit, here are a few tracks making their way around the 'netz over the last week that really caught our eye slash ear.

Too Many Sebastians

M.I.A – Internet Connection (Shook Remix)

Harder Blogger Faster

Matthew Dear – You Put A Smell On Me (Breakbot Remix)

I want your babies, IsaGT

You're just so perfect.

First, you dazzle us with the club banger Pel'ao. Then you enter a Diesel competition with a song called "Pa Las Mamasitas."

For the mamasitas? No, for us - your biggest fans. We are swooning.

And now you're featured on a Sandro Silva song.

Keep the hits coming, huevona.

MIXTAPE: for when you're buying socks

Montreal DJ CFCF is circling his mixtape, "Slow R&B for Zellers Locations Canada-Wide" around the tubes. It is exactly the schmaltzy gems you'd hear if you were stuck in some mostly-deserted, shabby department store searching for something lame like sensible shoes for work, except punched up a notch.

From  Exclaim.ca -- As the press release states, “The nearly 40 minute mix ... features department store-ready jams, sufficiently chopped and screwed. Synth stabs are funkier, snare drums are splashier, saxes are sexier and crooners are sultrier. The end product could very well be the lovechild of Freddie Jackson and the Knife.”

Zellers is a Canadian Department Store. In case you didn't "get it"

I love mood-mixtapes. I don't care what kind of mood you're going for, the weirder the better. It often gives a sense of purpose to music that might otherwise be ignored or discarded in the bargain bin at FYE.

Cheers, CFCF. Thanks 4 the jamz.

Let's Look Like Fools

This song is "old" (old meaning 1 year), but it's still so good. It came on my ipod this morning on the metro and I just lost all human dignity. I started rocking my head side to side and couldn't stop my self from lipsynching like an idiot. People may or may not have been judging. I looked like a fool. I want you to look like a fool too. So, here it is, get down with me.

Tallest Trees is a better name than Shortest Bush

The tallest trees in the world are, of course, Red Woods. Tallest Trees is the name of one of the coolest bands in the world. Considering RCRD LBL described them as "like the offspring of Animal Collective, YACHT and Yeasayer" I'd say, yeah, they just entered into the weekly rotation of every electrobitch in the nation. Enjoy them below and decide for yourself.

Add other bands you think could be combined to make their sound. Actually, that's kind of fun in a general sense. Like La Roux + James Brown = Janelle Monae. Do it.

What's on my mindgrapes?! (Part II)

Today while looking at my favorite Spanish language music blog - No Naci en Manchester (translation: I wasn't born in Manchester) I stumbled upon a feature article on Munk from Gomma Records. Included were two tracks from the Gomma Dance Tracks record - Munk – La Musica (Radio Edit) and Munk – La Musica (Mercury Remix).

Now I'd never heard of Munk and, of course, wanted to know more. I clicked on the first song and was blasted with intense bass and a garbled/warped voice. My co-worker (yes, I am a terrible employee and was playing music while I should be doing real work), Sean Peoples of Fatback and Socket Records fame, quipped "it sounds like German new wave from 1989." With further investigation, I found out that Munk was, in fact, from Germany.

(Side note: I prefered the music on Munk's MySpace page over the two tracks offered on NNM - particularly Back Down (Cut Copy remix))

Sean then suggested I check out "Teutonik Disaster," an obscure German New Wave sampler from Gomma Records from 2002, featuring tracks from 1977 to 1983. His favorites being Carmen - Schlaraffenland and Ampilla's Delight - Lover's Walkman.

Carmen - Schlaraffenland by electrobitches

You can download the entire album here.

So let's recap my thought process: No Naci en Manchester -> Munk -> Munk's MySpace page -> Sean Peoples -> Teutonik Disaster -> Electrobitches.

Phew.

Goth pop, Cyndi, Ariel Pink's HG

I found this sweet gothy band called the Bubonic Plague. I don't think they're making music anymore because their lead singer is now working solo under the name Geneva Jacuzzi.

Hahaha this is effing cool though. It makes me giggle AND want to dance. Can u DIG???

For all you pop pansies who CAN'T dig:

1) Check out those dance moves
2) Just WAIT for her to rip the hat off.
3) Prince wrote this song for Cyndi and does a great version of it himself. You can hear that and a bunch of other crazy-cool songs on this lovely mix Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti made for Fact Magazine. Most interesting mix of this sort I've heard in a while. But click soon, it's only available for a couple of weeks.

LCD Soundsystem Being Remixed Already

You know things have gotten epic for LCD Soundsystem if they haven't even released their newest album in its entirety and one of its songs has already been remixed. It's especially epic if the mix is good. Behold:

LCD Soundsystem - Drunk Girls (Holy Ghost! Remix)

Can this be more amazing?

Or gay? I hope not. Because this post combined with last week's and the one below definitely means we're deep into Gay Territory and there's no way back out. Let's get deeper! (I feel like there's some sexual innuendo in that statement and I'm OK with it.)

Anyway: Tegan & Sara. They are so cool. They are so gay. They are so popular right now. I'm on T&S overload and I love it.

Their newest single "Alligator" has been remixed by big artists like Holy Fuck, Passion Pit, Ra Ra Riot, and Toro y Moi. And. And! You can buy all of their contributions on iTunes for the low, low price of $12. Personally, I'd rather just listen to the free stuff. So without further ado, check out this Passion Pit video:

And also this

Alligator - Tegan and Sara (Toro y Moi Remix).

I think I'm in love

I'm all hot and bothered. There's just something about a girl who plays drums...and has a British accent...and also makes good music while she's at it. Here's Florrie with "Call 911 (Fred Falke Remix)."

Call 911 (Fred Falke Remix) - Florrie

Fall in love with me. Or maybe just dance. Or both.
