I went to the Lykke Li show yesterday at 9:30 Club. And, boy, was it a production. Before the bizarre silk-drape-haunted-forest act that was Lykke Li, there was a one woman band named Grimes.
She was adorable. She admitted that this show was the biggest yet she's played and she was nervous. But she pulled it off admirably. If you're into lush, psychedelic trip pop laced with electronic beats and a baby voice, Grimes is for you.

Also, after listening to this song and its lyrics I just have one question to ask: is Grimes gay?
I hope so.

Older, but not wiser
Hi, kids. It's my birthday. I am now 24. This is depressing. But, you know what they say: when you get older, you get wiser. Here's what I learned today:
1) Old people fucking love to do crosswords. This joy is magnified x10 while on public transportation. I can't figure this out. Crosswords are fun. To a point. I can get through maybe 25% of a crossword before my mind starts to wander. I've figured it out though. Old people love crosswords because: 1) They have too much time on their hands; 2) They can afford to have a daily newspaper (with crossword) delivered to them; 3) Crosswords are tailored to old people. (ex. 50 Down. "She's A Lady" Composer. We all know the answer is Tom Jones, but only old people really lived through it.)
2) Gmail addresses are really indicative of your personality. If you use your.name@gmail.com, you are like everybody fucking else. If you use your first initial + last name (ex. iname@gmail.com), chances are you are a man or a lesbian. If you have something other than your name as your gmail address, what is your problem? It's solely for resume purposes! Duh!
3) She Rex is a dance party that is supposed to play rock 'n roll by ladies for ladies. This is a good idea in theory. It is crap in execution. However, I am still going to celebrate my birthday there this Friday. You know why? There is no other option. But, I will request the following songs:
Aaliyah - Are You That Somebody?
Fever Ray - Seven (The Twelves Remix)
Khia - My Neck, My Back
La Roux - Bulletproof
See, New Gay? It wasn't that hard to play good music by ladies.
Hope to see all my DC readers (maybe 2 of you?) there.

Can this be more amazing?
Or gay? I hope not. Because this post combined with last week's and the one below definitely means we're deep into Gay Territory and there's no way back out. Let's get deeper! (I feel like there's some sexual innuendo in that statement and I'm OK with it.)
Anyway: Tegan & Sara. They are so cool. They are so gay. They are so popular right now. I'm on T&S overload and I love it.
Their newest single "Alligator" has been remixed by big artists like Holy Fuck, Passion Pit, Ra Ra Riot, and Toro y Moi. And. And! You can buy all of their contributions on iTunes for the low, low price of $12. Personally, I'd rather just listen to the free stuff. So without further ado, check out this Passion Pit video:

I think I'm in love
I'm all hot and bothered. There's just something about a girl who plays drums...and has a British accent...and also makes good music while she's at it. Here's Florrie with "Call 911 (Fred Falke Remix)."Call 911 (Fred Falke Remix) - Florrie
Fall in love with me. Or maybe just dance. Or both.

L Word Power
I was just having a discussion with a fellow electrobitch/contributor about the prevalence of lesbians in the electrobitch community - Beth Ditto and Hannah Blilie (The Gossip), Luiza Sa/Ana Rezende/Carolina Parra (CSS), and Elly Jackson (La Roux - OK, she's bi, whatever) to name a few. Yeah yeah, I know we always talk about them. We can't help it.
Now I would also love to include another favorite band, Tegan & Sara, in that illustrious grouping but they're not really electro in any way. Luckily, The Ramshackle Kings decided to enter another dimension and make the lesbian duo into electrobitches for a day (or two). "Living Room" is a T&S classic, and easily one of my favorite songs; and now it's been masterfully remixed/covered.
